Bringing old time alphabets to the now
During three intensive sessions we will be working on exploration, transformation and customization of different classic calligraphic alphabets from past centuries, seeking their reinterpretation in a new and current context.
Requirements
- Calligraphic nibs 0.5mm and 3mm
- Flat brush, 1cm and 3cm
- Letter and tabloid sketching paper
- Indian ink for calligraphy
- Scissors
Level
Intermediate. This workshop is aimed at the preference of people with basic knowledge in calligraphy and letters.
Julien Priez
Julien Priez was born in Montreuil, France and studied Graphic Design and Type Design between 2004 and 2010 at Eugénie Cotton Montreuil and Estienne Paris.
After working for three years as a freelance typographer and calligrapher for several agencies, Pierre Di Sciullo, Atelier Chévara (Marge Design today), and Atelier Muësli, he left to work as an employee in type foundry for two years.
He now works as an independent calligrapher, type & graphic designer @boogypaper and teaches for several schools in Paris, France & around the world. In 2016, he won the bronze prize at the Morisawa type design competition in Tokyo, Japan. Since then, he is also a formal member of High on type collective.
