What is Letrastica?

We are a group of people that love typography and wish to share it. Our non-profit activities are oriented towards professional exchange and creating a network of professionals, students and enthusiasts in areas of design, calligraphy, sign painting and type.

Our focus is to:

Connect

Promoting regional type design and typography work of the Mexican and Latin American community with professionals from all around the world.

Guide

Opening and enabling spaces of appreciation, education and exchange outside of the traditional academic circles and decentralizing the access to typographic knowledge through chapters.

Diversify

Promoting inclusion and plurality in the professional community and in the new generations.

Facilitate access to tools, education and knowledge related to typography and type design in order to contribute to the training of professional designers.

Invite

Reuniting and broadening the community of type, calligraphy, sign painting and design professionals, students and enthusiasts.

Locations and chapters

Letrastica holds chapters in Xalapa, Puebla and Guadalajara, with a group of representatives in Mexico City. Moreover, under the initiative of Letrastica Community, open online spaces have come to life with the goal of having non-location dependent access to exchange of knowledge and resources.

Letrastica Guadalajara

In this city Letrastica was born as a project. Every two years it is the main venue of the Festival.

Letrastica Xalapa

The Xalapa chapter intends to spread content on typography and type design while lead the formation of a nascent community, mainly made up of students and enthusiasts.Through workshops, exhibitions and meetups, we intend to increase the interest of people dedicated to design in this professional field.

Letrastica Puebla

Puebla has grown a community around interest in type, with more and more students and professionals looking to develop a specialty in type design. Collectives such as Letter INC and Letrastica are taking charge of developing and spreading various activities that build an active and successful community.

Through its chapters and community, Letrastica coordinates and organizes all-year-round activities, such as exhibitions, interventions, critiques, talks, workshops, tours, mentorships and meetups that bring the community together.

Our collective's main activity is the Letrastica Festival, which has been established as a community gathering place and as one of the most important typographic events in Latin America. Since 2015, the festival has been held biannually in Guadalajara.

Letrastica collaborates permanently with other collectives, associations, foundries and institutions dedicated to promotion of typography and design. In our previous activities, we have worked together with: Dual Type , Tipastype , Asociación Mexicana de Tipografía , Impronta Casa Editora , Times New Woman , Birras y Letras , Type Thursday ( BOG , MAD , CDMX ), Letterform Archive , Type@Cooper , Typographics and Type Crit Crew.
